Policy Proposals in the Wake of the Charlie Kirk Assassination

“At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.”
–Abraham Lincoln, 1838

The assassination of Charlie Kirk made clear that the radical Left’s long march through America’s institutions is no longer a matter of quiet subversion; it is a clear and present threat to the Republic. This act of violence and others like it are the inevitable consequences of a culture that vilifies the truth, radicalizes youth, and is completely untethered from the biblical values upon which America is founded. If permitted to continue, our nation cannot endure. Kirk’s murder inspired a wave of faithful, patriotic Americans to stand up, speak out boldly, and pray fervently for national revival. Here we join their voices, presenting an initial set of policy reforms aimed at dismantling entrenched networks of ideological capture in education and the non-profit sector, reining in the pernicious influences made possible by social media, ending the madness of transgender ideology, and more.

Proposal I – End Federal Funding for Institutions of Higher Education that Hate America

Public institutions of higher education are irredeemably captured by left-wing ideologues and indoctrinate America’s youth in pagan dogmas that elevate a secular religion of identitarian racialism while actively suppressing the pursuit of truth through an open exchange of ideas. Therefore, Congress should consider:

  • Fully privatizing the financing of higher education, terminating all federal programs, including subsidies for student loans and grants, like Pell.

  • Stipulating that all other federal funding for colleges and universities is premised on schools meeting minimum basic criteria, reversing the erasure of conservative thought in academic hiring and teaching, guaranteeing freedom of speech and inquiry, and the non-partisan provision of space and security for events and speakers. States themselves should do a better job of ensuring their schools promote the country’s founding principles.

Proposal II – Investigate & Prosecute Non-Profit Organizations that Promote Violence

The non-profit sector is given preferential tax treatment out of recognition that charitable organizations are contributing to the wholesome purposes of society, yet many so-called charities exist to promote anti-American ideology, foment violence, and fund violence. Therefore, Congress and the administration should consider:

  • Enforcing existing law and revoking the tax-exempt status of entities that promote anti-American ideology and violence, like doxxing law enforcement and public officials.

  • Prohibiting tech firms and digital platforms that facilitate crowdfunding from using their services to fund protective gear, travel funds, and equipment in support of violence.

Proposal III – Protect Children from the Damaging Effects of Social Media

Social media is a toxin for the minds of children whose pathologies are worse than drugs, cigarettes, or alcohol. These include depression, anxiety, bullying, addiction, and exposure to entities committed to untethering children from their nuclear families, without necessary guardrails to prevent harm. Exposure to pornography constitutes serious harm to children, including distorting their understanding of humanity, damaging emotional development, and fueling long-term addiction. Social media platforms, with little accountability and lax safeguards, have become the primary gateway through which this toxic content reaches young minds. Therefore, all social media sites should have mandatory age verification and restrict access to minors under the age of 18. As needed, parents can make decisions to sign their children into various platforms if they deem the purpose to be safe and conducive to their children’s development and learning.

Proposal IV – End Federal Support for the Lie of Transgenderism

Trangenderism is a social contagion promulgated by an unholy alliance of for-profit healthcare, progressive non-profits and schools, and Critical Theory-infused institutions. As a result, a virulent mental health disorder is affirmed and normalized, while people are suffering. Therefore, Congress should consider:

  • Enacting a federal ban on so-called gender transition medical interventions for minors.

  • Enacting Hyde-like prohibitions on federal funding for transgender therapy and surgeries, and any other medical intervention to change the gender of any person, and all research, education, outreach, or any other programs related to LGBT issues.

  • Requiring health care providers, including hospitals, to adopt the DSM-III or DSM-IV classification of Transsexualism or Gender Identity Disorder to be eligible for federal funding.

  • Prohibiting states with any SOGI law or policy from receiving federal funding.

  • Extending the statute of limitations for patients to sue medical providers for malpractice if they regret gender transition treatments.

Proposal V – Protect Speech Without Promoting ViolenceCongress should consider reforming defamation law so that public figures are not held to the heightened New York Times v. Sullivan “actual malice” standard. Instead of being shielded from lawsuits unless they prove intentional falsehood or reckless disregard for the truth, public figures should have the same ability to sue for defamation as private individuals. This reform would allow lawsuits against groups like the Southern Policy Law Center when they publicly defame people like Charlie Kirk as racists and fascists without a factual basis.
